NOVALUX · Retrofit & modernisation

Control system retrofits

Obsolete modules and inaccessible software can make an otherwise useful machine difficult to maintain. A control retrofit examines how its functions could move onto a viable technical foundation. NOVALUX approaches your enquiry with particular attention to existing programs, interfaces and restart conditions, so modernisation is treated as more than buying replacement hardware.

Who is this service for?

  • Operators with obsolete control components
  • Maintenance teams unable to obtain spare parts
  • Project leads planning machine modernisation

Possible scope of work

  • Record existing functions and dependencies
  • Define migration boundaries for controls, operator interfaces and signals
  • Prepare shutdown, backup and rollback arrangements for the project

What you receive

  • A structured description of the starting state
  • Agreed migration and test requirements
  • Specified backup and handover records

From enquiry to handover

  1. Secure the existing system

Programs, parameters, device versions and known modifications are checked for completeness. Missing sources are made visible as a distinct project risk.

  2. Define the target scope

Functions to retain are separated from desired improvements. This makes it clear whether the project is replacement or a broader machine modification.

  3. Plan the transition

Testing opportunities outside production, the changeover window and restart criteria are agreed. Any rollback option is assessed for its actual feasibility.

What we need for your quotation

  • Controller and operator-device list
  • Source projects, backups and circuit diagrams
  • Spare-parts issues and available shutdown periods

Frequently asked questions

Can a retrofit be phased?

Some areas may be treated separately. Shared communication paths, operator interfaces or safety functions can limit that separation.

Will the old behaviour remain unchanged?

That needs to be defined through function descriptions and tests. Hidden dependencies or previously undocumented sequences are not assumed to be fully known.

What if restart fails?

Stop criteria, responsible people and a realistic recovery route belong in the plan. A return to the previous state can only be promised where the technical conditions and time window actually allow it.
