Interface integration

Two reachable systems do not automatically understand each other. A useful interface needs aligned data fields, meaning, units and error behaviour. NOVALUX approaches integration enquiries between production systems with these questions: what information should move from where to where, who may change it and how will the participants recognise a successful exchange?

Who is this service for?

  • Businesses with separate production and information systems
  • Project leads organising data exchange
  • IT/OT owners introducing new connections

Possible scope of work

  • Define source and destination systems and data direction
  • Map fields, units, timestamps and states
  • Describe errors, retries and access permissions

What you receive

  • An interface specification with data mappings
  • Agreed tests for normal and failure conditions
  • Specified technical handover records

From enquiry to handover

  1. Describe the exchange

Example records and their intended use show which fields are actually needed. Read-only access is explicitly distinguished from writing commands back to production.

  2. Check compatibility

Available protocols or APIs, versions and permissions determine implementation options. Manufacturer conditions and existing system ownership are considered.

  3. Test transitions

Alongside successful transfers, missing values, duplicate messages and communication interruptions are examined. Results in the destination must remain understandable and attributable.

What we need for your quotation

  • Names and versions of both systems
  • Interface documentation and anonymised sample data
  • Desired direction, frequency and business meaning

Frequently asked questions

Why are field names not enough?

A field called status may mean different things in different systems. Its meaning, range, unit and update behaviour need to be agreed together to avoid misleading conclusions.

Can the project start with read-only access?

A clearly limited read-only scope may be appropriate if the systems support it. That access still needs approval and data-quality checks.

What happens when communication stops?

Buffering, retries and identification of missing data are agreed for the project. Complete retrospective reconstruction is not promised without a suitable function at the source.
